Dr. Priyal Desai grew up in Amarillo, TX, where her curiosity about science and helping others began to take shape. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, before going on to complete her Doctorate of Optometry at the University of Houston College of Optometry. Her clinical training included rotations in ocular disease, neuro-optometry, pediatrics, low vision, specialty contact lenses, and comprehensive eye care. Dr. Desai also participated in the Student Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity (SVOSH) where she provided eye exams to local residents and students in Kenya, Africa. This was one of the most rewarding experiences of her life.
A few years after graduating, Dr. Desai went on to own and operate her own private practice in Austin for six years. It was there that she truly found her calling — not just in treating patients, but in empowering them. She became known for taking the time to truly listen, educate, and work alongside her patients to find holistic solutions tailored to their unique needs and lifestyles.
Through years of meaningful patient relationships, she noticed a common thread among many of her patients: the widespread and often overlooked impact of Dry Eye Disease. This realization sparked a focused commitment to becoming a trusted resource for those living with this chronic condition.
At the heart of Dr. Desai’s philosophy is a simple yet powerful belief — that every patient deserves personalized care and the knowledge to take control of their health. Her approach blends compassion and empathy with evidence-based education, helping patients take an active role in managing their eye health and improving their quality of life.
In her free time, Dr. Desai enjoys traveling, live music, yoga, cooking, being outdoors and spending time with her husband.
